Gentle Rain Designs

In 1997, a group of motivated people at the Hopi Tribe established Gentle Rain Designs, a unique clothing manufacturing company. Currently the company is organized under the Hopi Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on supporting self-sufficiency at Hopi. Gentle Rain Designs' mission is to create local self-sustainable employment opportunities while balancing modern financial needs with strong cultural values of family, environmental stewardship and self determination.

Now coming into its second year of operation, the business is designing, producing and selling fashion apparel which features cultural designs. At the same time Gentle Rain Designs is focusing on environmentally fabrics, namely a fleece fabric product produced from recycled PET plastic, which is giving a second life to hundreds of thousands of recovered soda bottles.

Gentle Rain's Jackets and Vests offer unique Native American creative designs in a combination of colorful printed fleece and EcoSpun fleece made from recycled plastic liter bottles. Each piece is carefully handcrafted; cut and sewn by women at their home on the Hopi Indian reservation, making each garment an individual work of wearable art. **Gentle Rain is now working with Hemp, an environmentally friendly fabric which is one of the strongest natural fibers known to man. As with any fashion apparel from Gentle Rain, our hemp apparel is limited addition. These garments in particular are on special order only.

Every Gentle Rain Designs garment is original and limited addition. No piece will ever be mass-produced, with a maximum production per garment being 100.

Newest to Gentle Rain Designs is the use of Hemp with our garments. Our only piece currently using the hemp is this sleek, trim pull over vest with collar. The top yoke is 100% hemp and the bottom is all EcoSpun fleece. To add that extra touch, we highlighted this piece with a trim of printed fleece.
