Ceremonial textile weavers are decreasing at Hopi. Men are the weavers of textiles. The majority of the Hopi weavers have learned their skills by trial and error. This is one of the least known skill taught to another person.
There are more than 15 ceremonial textiles that men weave. Most of them are being imitated by non-Hopis. The imitations are easily spotted when they are worn. The quality and authenticity is not there, along with the fine designs.
The majority of the material used today is now store bought. In the older days, strings made for weaving were strung from cotton that was grown. Sheep wool is also used for weaving. The materials were then dyed and then made into strings, then processed to make into ceremonial textiles.

Assortment of Hopi Ceremonial Clothing
The ceremonial sash is all hand woven, the weaving is superb. For order display purposes, the sash can be made to any length. This size is normally required for dances and may be shortened for display.
The ceremonial textiles pictured here are used for ceremonial dances. The art of weaving these products is slowly dying out, my hopes are to revive this art by teaching the younger generation in weaving. There are many other textiles that can be made, but I consider these the main products that may be marketable.
